REACH/European Chemicals Regulation
The REACH Regulation was formally adopted on 18 December 2006 by the the Council of Environment Ministers following the vote in second reading of the European Parliament on 13 December 2006. REACH will enter into force on 1 June 2007. The text of the Regulation was published on 30 December 2006 in the Official Journal of the European Union L 396.
NARSTO
NARSTO is a public/private partnership, whose membership
spans government, the utilities, industry, and academe throughout Mexico, the United
States, and Canada. Its primary mission is to coordinate and enhance policy-relevant
scientific research and assessment of tropospheric pollution behavior; its activities
provide input for science-based decision-making and determination of workable, efficient,
and effective strategies for local and regional air-pollution management.
International
Council of Chemical Associations (ICCA)
The International Council of Chemical Associations (ICCA) is
the world-wide voice of the chemical industry, representing chemical manufacturers and
producers all over the world. It accounts for more than 80 per cent of chemical
manufacturing operations with a production exceeding US 1,6 trillion annually. Almost 30
percent of this production is traded internationally. ICCA promotes and co-ordinates
Responsible Care and other voluntary chemical industry initiatives.
The Globally Harmonized System of
Classification and Labelling of Chemicals
The document here below describes the GHS. It
contains harmonized classification criteria and hazard communication elements. In
addition, guidance is included in the document to assist countries and organizations in
the development of tools for implementation of the GHS. The GHS is designed to permit
self-classification. The provisions for implementation of the GHS allow the uniform
development of national policies, while remaining flexible enough to accommodate any
special requirements that might have to be met. Furthermore, the GHS is intended to create
user-friendly approach, to facilitate the work of enforcement bodies and to reduce the
administrative burden.
