The International Paint and Printing Ink Council (IPPIC) Antifouling Working Group (the Group) was formed to:
Membership of the IPPIC AFWG is open to all paint companies which manufacture antifoulings and related raw materials that are members of their national paint maker associations, which, either directly or via regional associations are members of IPPIC.
Multinational companies are allowed one lead delegate, except that, in order to ensure adequate regional or national representation, further additional delegates from otherwise unrepresented countries may be added with the approval of the group. The group may, as from time to time as it considers appropriate, invite additional representatives of raw material suppliers, staff members of paint associations, regulatory officials and other persons to attend.
The IPPIC AFWG normally meets at least once a year to discuss strategic issues and monitor the activities of the group. Legal council is present at all meetings, and the minutes summarizing all discussions are available to group members and other interested parties. Efforts to develop additional work product or to address issues that emerge between meetings may be accomplished through conference call and/or e-mails. The AFWG also appoints one of its number as Chairperson and one as Vice-Chairperson to preside at meetings.
Decisions and positions on issues being addressed by the AFWG are to be achieved through consensus of all members present at a meeting, and comport with all IPPIC requirements as outlined in the council’s by-laws and operational guidelines. At the beginning of each meeting the IPPIC policy with respect to competition and code of conduct issues will be provided and reviewed by legal counsel, and participants will be monitored for strictly comply with all relevant competition or antitrust laws.
The International Paint and Printing Ink Council (IPPIC) Performance Standards for Protective Coatings Working Group (PSPC WG) was formed to address the International Maritime Organization's (IMO) program establishing a uniform performance standards for anti-corrosion protective coatings which are applied to ballast tanks, crude oil tanker cargo holds, and void spaces. Effective coatings to prevent corrosion of these critical areas are essential to prevent their breaching and causing catastrophic loss of life.
Established by IPPIC coatings companies, the effort has now evolved to where three Joint Work Groups have been organized under IPPIC auspices. These will work under the umbrella of an IMO Correspondence Committee to develop a uniform test method for determining the adequacy of such coatings. The Joint Work Groups include representatives from IPPIC coatings manufacturers, independent testing labs, certification societies, shipyards, ship owners, and insurance companies — all of the major interests affected by the standards.
